Quebec Cartier Railway

The ore train, powered by Engine 49, has been loaded with concentrate and is ready to start its journey to Port Cartier. During the first 176 KM (110 miles) the road crosses the railroad tracks thirteen times. To the left of the engine is part of the gravel section of Highway 389.

Another train, another day and another of the thirteen crossings. We always manage to meet at least one train on every one of our trips down Highway 389. When we have to stop at a crossing we usually exit the car to stretch our legs. As the trains pass, the engineers usually give a short toot on the whistle and wave as they pass.
