Mount Wright - Iron Ore Crusher

Crusher Building

The orange building in the center is the crusher. Two trucks can dump their loads simultaneously. Ore dumped here passes through a grizzly on its way to the actual crushing mechanism. A grizzly acts as a huge sieve and only rocks small enough to go through the crusher will pass through. On the right hand side you can see a loader which is used to remove the ore too large to pass through the grizzly.

Conveyer Belt

A conveyer belt moves the ore from the crusher to the processing plant and is approximately 1/3 mile (½ km) in length and about 5 feet (1½ m) wide. This conveyer is enclosed in a structure to protect it from the harsh winter conditions. To allow for conveyer inspection and maintenance, a walkway stretches the full length of the structure. The belt leads to several silos which store the crude ore until it is required for processing.
