At the bottom of the tail of the "Q" shape the wide river becomes narrow. This is where the Manicouagan Dam is located. The island in the middle is named Ile Rene-Levasseur and includes a 245 sq km (95 sq mile) ecological nature reserve called Louis-Babel.
