Releasing Water

The water, having done its job, exits the Hart Jaune. The gates allow a controlled amount of water to be returned to the Hart Jaune River from the reservoir. The installed capacity of this hydroelectric facility is 48.45 MW from three generators and was commissioned in 1960. After exiting the Jaune Hart powerplant, the river flows into the Manicouagan reservoir system to be used again to produce more power. This is a secondary dam and the power generating station is at a different point on the reservoir.

Road on top of dam

Another dam that controls the water level of the Hart Jaune Reservoir. This photo was taken standing on the public roadway on top of the dam. Please notice there are no guardrails for vehicle safety although there is an approximately 40 foot (12 meter) drop-off. We picked and ate wild raspberries that grow on the shoulder of this elevated road.
