Hart Jaune Reservoir

The Hart Jaune reservoir. Electrical power for the town of Gagnon and the mine site was provided by the power generated from the water in this reservoir. Surface area of this reservoir is 228 sq km (88 sq miles). It has three generating units that produce 50 MW of power. It was commissioned in 1960 and is now part of the Manicouagan Power District.

Dam Control Gates

The reservoir spillway allows for controlled release of water from the reservoir back into the Hart Jaune River. We were surprised that when we visited in 2000 that only a few areas of this dam were padlocked and we could walk most areas of the structure, including areas we didn't go because we felt it was too dangerous.
