A bird's eye view taken from the top of one of the many man-made piles of overburden. In the distance can be seen the start of the tailings pile. Being an overcast day, the various colors and hues of these huge rocks look muted and plain. In bright sun, the rocks vary from greens, grays, reds, white, black and sparkle from magnetite.

Although many man-made scars still remain, as the cliché goes, all good things come to him who waits. It has taken nature the better part of a quarter century to start to restore what was virgin territory into some semblance of what had been. In this case, man has helped nature start its journey back to its original beauty. As part of returning the environment to its natural state, trees have been planted in different areas throughout the mine site. Under this reforestation project would be overburden such as pictured above.
