Fall Foliage - Highway 389   Fall Foliage - Highway 389

Paved surfaces are from Baie Comeau to Manic V, 212 km (131 miles), from Gagnon to Fire Lake, 88 km (55 miles), from Mount Wright to the Quebec-Labrador border, 22 km (13 miles). The other 248 km (155 miles) are gravel. There are three gas stations/rest stops on this 570 km (354 mile) road. They are located near km markers 22, 212 and 316. No matter which road surface, the views are beautiful. While driving this remote highway, traffic is sparse. This year, five transport trucks and three personal vehicles were seen; because of the novelty of traffic, we often take photos of the traffic phenomenon. Although this is a beautiful, scenic drive, the road is very narrow and winding; invariably, you will meet a transport on a turn. Because of this, we usually plan our drive on this highway for a Sunday when transportation traffic is at a minimum.
