Fall Foliage - Quebec Highway 138

Quebec Highway 389, known as "Freedom Road", was opened in 1985. This 570 km (354 mile) highway is approximately 50% gravel and 50% blacktop through beautiful mountains, streams and lakes. Obviously, this is part of the northern, gravel section of this remote highway. For the first time in Labrador City's 25 year existence, people were connected to the mainland highway system. After so many years of remote isolation, residents would often take the seven-hour drive to Baie Comeau just to shop at Wal-Mart or eat at a McDonald's. Why? Because they finally could.
