La Manche

La Manche

Photos of La Manche Harbour and shoreline taken from the Brigus South side of the Harbour. These photos were taken from the Bauline side or the suspension bridge. The harbour is long and narrow, shaped like a sleeve; hence the name "La Manche".

Even though the day was seasonably warm with only a few clouds(70 F or 21 C), there was fog because the water is still cold from pack ice and icebergs. When warm air and cold water mix, the result is fog.

The above two photos are taken of the same area. It shows an innovate way to make steps into the solid granite. Two-by-fours were bolted into the rock about 18 inches (45 centimeters) apart. In the photo on the left, these two-by-four steps are in the upper left.
