Photographer's Point

This photograph taken at Photographer's Point overlooks Bonne Bay and the town of Norris Point. The area was originally settled by European fishermen in the 1600s. The water of Bonne Bay is up to 230 meters (754 feet) deep, and the depth combined with strong winds from the Gulf of St. Lawrence which are tunneled by the mountains makes navigation treacherous for ships.

Photographer's Point
Same town as in the above photo taken from a different angle.

Although you seldom find privately owned land or towns in the midst of a National Park, Gros Morne has seven such areas. In the 1970's Norris Point's population expanded when families were forcibly relocated when their previous towns were closed during the development of this park. Although Norris Point would never be considered a large community, it is large in size when compared with most Newfoundland outports. The latest census shows a population of 1010 living in 270 homes.
