Arrival in Gros Morne

After an enjoyable lunch with Gary's youngest son who was attending College of the North Atlantic in Corner Brook; we were stunned to see the beauty awaiting for us in the 1,805 sq km (696 sq mile) Gros Morne (big mountain) National Park. In 1987, this park was designated a UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization) World Heritage Site. We were so overwhelmed by the natural beauty of these mountain vistas that at the first opportunity we pulled off the road to take photos.

Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse

In 1897, Lobster Cove Head lighthouse was erected near Rocky Harbor at the entrance of Bonne Bay. It was manufactured by Victoria Iron Works in St. John's, Newfoundland, and was one of the few casted outside England. This light house is still functioning and is operated by the Canadian Coast Guard. The lighthouse museum includes information about prehistoric to modern peoples who inhabited this area. We enjoyed the gentle, circular 1 KM (0.6 mile) walking trail around the lighthouse and shore.
