Hilly gardens and towering cliffs denote this small community. The area beach, known as Northern Bay Sands, provides one of the most beautiful sandy beaches in Newfoundland. After Confederation the beach became a provincial park. The park is unique because it has natural soft sand; most Newfoundland beaches have beach rocks or flat rock. The ocean is often cold this far North; however, two fresh-water streams feed into this area and the water is relatively warm.
