At 47 31 N / 52 37 W, Cape Spear is the easternmost point in North America. To get an idea how far east: it is about 2,735 KM (1,700 miles) to Europe; 1,600 KM (931 miles) to New York City; and 5,150 KM (3,200 miles) to California. From the heights of it sheer cliffs (Elevation. 246 ft/75 m.), there is spectacular view of the open Atlantic, making it an excellent spot for watching whales, seabirds, icebergs and taking photos. St. John's was now connected with New York by a thousand statute miles (1600 km) of land
