Botanical Gardens Gary with Debbie's sister and brother-in-law.

The Botanical Gardens are associated with Memorial University of Newfoundland and has been open to the public since 1977. Since opening, it has displayed plants native to the island and introduced foreign plants suitable to the local climate. The various gardens include: flower, cottage, rock, Newfoundland heritage, rhododendron, shade, medicinal, dried flower, vegetable, peat and woodland. During the walk through this 110 acre reserve, you travel through wetlands, freshwater areas, boreal forest and Newfoundland barrens. After walking on wood-chipped or wooden trails, you can purchase a memento of your visit at the gift shop. This facility is used for research, education and as a resource center.

Botanical Gardens Debbie with her brother-in-law and sister.

Debbie's sister and brother-in-law joined us for one week of vacation. Besides the sites mentioned in this section of our web page, we also visited The Fluvarium, GeoCenter, and Newfoundland Railroad Museum. We also drove by various historical, cultural and scenic buildings and places. We also spent a day investigating the wonderful offerings from the many quaint shops on Water Street. After enjoying the fares from many of the local restaurants, our guests were "Screeched In" at Trapper John's and thus became honorary Newfoundlanders (with certificates to prove it).
