There is cultural diversities and attractions in the larger cities; however, the small outport fishing towns offer museums, heritage homes and historic sites. Due to the areas relative isolation much of the unique character of the traditional Newfoundland outport continues to thrive in the coastal communities of central Newfoundland. There is no better way you can truly experience the culture of Newfoundland and its people than by exiting the Trans Canada Highway and taking part in one of the many outport community events and festivals taking place all throughout the year. A variety of dinner theaters and plays depict our lifestyle and the events that have helped shape our history.
There's something available for everybody. History buffs can enjoy archaeological digs from some of the oldest European settlements in North America. There's often a kitchen party for social mixing. There's many churches. There's various sports from winter sports such as Nordic or Alpine skiing to snowmobiling to summer adventures of a 1,883 KM (548 miles) hiking trail.
