Labrador City Arena

Labrador City Arena

Labrador City Arena is used for figure skating, hockey, broom ball, flea market, IOCC Family Day, various activities such as the summer program, and First Night celebrations (a non-alcoholic New Year's Eve family celebration). Most outdoor summer events move to this large building if it rains. This building is only one small part of this sports complex. The complex includes lighted men and women's softball fields, soccer field, curling club, tennis courts, skateboard facility and a track and field area.

Inside the Arena

The ice surface inside of the Labrador City Arena during parents and tot's skating. Notice some of the younger children are using a modified walker in order to retain their balance while learning the intricacies of skating. Even though parents stay near their children, you will notice the young skaters are all wearing the required helmets.

Trophy Case

As you enter the arena, you will notice the trophy cases. Because of the diversity of sports which use the arena's surface, there are a large number of trophies on display. The autographed hockey stick in the middle trophy case belonged to John Slaney. John scored the winning goal for Canada in the World Junior Championship game and was also the first Newfoundlander to ever be a first round draft choice in the NHL.
