The photo above is a portion of the mall taken from the south parking lot in July.
The Labrador Mall, which is the largest mall in Labrador, opened in March of 1978; the week local 5795 went on a four-month strike.
It is the largest indoor shopping facility in Labrador and greatly increased goods and services available to the local population.
This mall covers a total area of 246,923 square feet.
It houses 59 businesses employing approximately 275 people.
The anchor stores are Wal-Mart, Harts (department stores) and Co-op (groceries).
Although the mall does not track daily consumers, during a one evening pre-Christmas Moonlight Madness sale, 3,000 customers shopped in this store.
In addition to the mall, there are two strip malls and other independent businesses; however, customer service is almost non-existent since most businesses have little or no competition. Although there are many things we can't purchase in our area, technology is a high priority and we're on DSL cable for our computer and the competition has ADSL (fiber-optics). The television cable company offers over 60 stations. Plus we have four re-broadcast radio stations.
