Life and Times of Labrador West's Pioneers - 6
|
- Do you think Labrador City will ever end up like Gagnon?
- No, I really don't think we will see Labrador City ending up like Gagnon.
- Not in the immediate future because of positive reserves and markets of iron ore and further schemes.
- I can not see into the future.
- A possible scenario if IOCC shuts down, but unlikely in my opinion.
- No, I don't think Labrador City will end up like Gagnon.

- What impact do you think the completion of Freedom Road in 1985 had on people from Labrador City?
- I think it gives you a good feeling just to know you can jump into your vehicle and leave town when you want. It also gives you the opportunity to return whenever you decide to, too.
- Given the options of travel which ended remote or isolation status is a good boost to the general psyche.
- It is useful.
- You would have had to live here when we were totally isolated from the "outside" (except
for plane and train travel/transportation) to fully appreciate the enormous
impact/improvement the well-named Freedom Road has had on our mental and emotional
well-being as well as on our daily lives.
- It gives people a sense of freedom since they have a choice between flying or driving.

- What organizations have you been involved with since moving here?
- Our children were involved in minor hockey, downhill skiing, figure skating and Crusaders which kept us involved to a certain extent.
- We've been involved in the Canadian Legion, Roman Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Recreation Commission, softball and minor hockey, Scouts, CRRS and a Member of the Town Council.
- We were involved in the Legion, Library Board, Integrated School Board and the Hospital Board.
- Chamber of Commerce and Winter Carnival Committee (in the early years).
- I was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
