Through the years, most original buildings have been reincarnated, updated and rejuvenated for other uses. This building's original intent was housing for single women. As apartment buildings became available, the building was no longer required for this purpose. The building was then used as a training facility for IOCC's tradesmen. This allowed the tradesmen to upgrade without having to leave the area and attend a six-week trade school course. During the day, the men could work at IOCC and in the evening attend a two-hour upgrade class. The benefits of this was two-fold. IOCC retained the men's services while the men received their upgrades without having to leave home or miss a paycheck. | |
When the decision was made to close the building as a training center, it was given to the town of Labrador City for a Community Center. Since then, the building has been used for various and multiple activities such as teen center, women's center, Girl Guides and preschool. There are also conference rooms available if any organization in town needs a place to meet. Currently the majority of the building is used for the Women's Center.
