Crystal Falls is a short drive or nice walk from Labrador City. It is situated just off the Trans-Labrador Highway 500.
At the top of the falls you will find a beautiful panoramic view of the mountains, Labrador City, and Wabush.
You may approach the falls by either taking an eastern or western hiking trail. These are joined at the top of the falls by a bridge. In the past, this 1 km trail had been well maintained during the summer and had log or wood bridges over the streams and most potentially muddy areas. In 2005, we noticed the park had some bridges repaired or replaced but several had loose or missing logs.
Gravel paths and rock retainer steps have been added to sections of the western trails. In our opinion, it is the more scenic of the two routes because it meanders through the forest.
The eastern trail has been left more natural and is the more challenging of the two approaches. There is less foliage on this trail giving the hiker greater opportunity to photograph the falls. For the more adventurous you can also access the base of the falls from the eastern trail.
We recommend traversing the western trail on the way to the falls and returning via the eastern route.
The photo to the left shows the sign pointing the way to the Falls. Like many things of the trail, it had not been well-maintained and now lays abandoned in the ditch.
