Your first question might be why whales are included in a site highlighting Labrador West. There's a simple answer: if you drive to Labrador West, there's a chance you'll see a whale while in route. Plus, there are whales on the Eastern boundary of Labrador, which is the Atlantic Ocean.
If you arrive in Labrador from the east, you may see whales along the Atlantic coast. If you drive from the west, whales can often be seen cavorting alongside the ferry on the Saguaney River. There are numerous excursions located between Beau pre to Baie-Comeau to see these big mammals in their natural habitat; however, most are located near Tadoussac. In the summer, many tourists visit the area to partake of this attraction. In the top photo, you can see the tip of the fin and the dark shape of the whale's body. In the lower photo, you get a clearer view of the tail fin as the whale prepares to dive under the surface. The whale paralleled the ferry for about four minutes bringing many smiles to the watching passengers.
