Adult red foxes range between 36 to 45 inches (90 to 112 cm) and weight between 8 to 15 pounds (3.6 to 6.8 kg)
About one-third of their length is their tail. Red foxes in the north tend to be bigger.
The males are called foxes and females are vixens.
Although "red fox" is the accepted common name for the species,
not all members of the species are actually red.
