Wabush Hotel

The Wabush Hotel was the first hotel built in Labrador West. It contains 52 rooms and four suites. There are two restaurants, one provides Canadian cuisine and the other provides Chinese. Attached to the hotel are a convenience store, barber shop, and lounge. It also has a conference room and banquet facilities. In fact, the annual IOCC dinner and dance honoring employees who have celebrated their 25th anniversary with the company is held at this facility. In 1998 when Gary reached this tenure, there were 175 employees, their escort plus various IOCC dignitaries. They even provided rides home after the gala event. If you visit our Gagnon pages, you will notice the similarity between this hotel and the Barbel Hotel that once housed guests in that town. That is because it was built by the same contractor from similar plans.

Wabush Shopping Plaza

The anchor stores in this mall have changed numerous times. The anchor store of Saan's, a department store, recently closed and the space is empty. The current anchor store is LoLo Foods, a grocery store. Other small businesses include a branch of the Bank of Montreal, a convenience store, restaurant, bar/lounge, Canada Post, travel agency, a craft store, a Christmas store and various other small retail establishments.
