A Scoff an' Scuff's Labrador
Labrador

The name "Labrador" is one of the oldest names of European origin in Canada. It is almost as old as the name "Newfoundland". Labrador is named after the Portuguese explorer, Joćo Fernandes Lavrador, who discovered it in 1492 with Pedro de Barcelos.

The Labrador information varies from the earliest known human habitation of Labrador, the fight for ownership, the exploration and development of the iron ore industry, development of hydroelectric power, and highlights both towns in Labrador West (Labrador City and Wabush) plus short segments about other primary Labrador towns (Churchill Falls and Goose Bay). It includes an explanation of the symbols unique to the Labrador people, some sanctioned and some unofficial. It boasts of the beauty of unique northern art - ice and snow sculpting. It characterizes the cultural and political climate of Labrador including the fifty-year fight to have Labrador included as part of the official provincial name.
