feed lot

The feed lot is the last stage on the journey before going to the slaughter house. During this time cows are fed lots of grain to make their meat tasty. The feed lots have large lights going 24 hours a day so the cows will eat more.

Kansas Cow Paths

Cattle are creatures of habit and will almost always take the same path through the pasture, often following each other. Eventually the soil is compacted so that it will no longer grow native grasses. These grooves are called cow paths and criss-cross throughout the pasture. This photo was taken in Phillips County.
