A broken windmill and tree are silhouetted in the above sunset. Although rain is scant in this state, the wind is a never-ending commodity. The average wind speed is 20¾ kph (12 mph). Of the fifty states, Kansas ranks fifth for average wind speed.

The flat, treeless plains have spectacular sunrises and sunsets. The average annual percent of sunny days is 65%; thus, most days begin and end with these beautiful scenes. Since farmers work from sun-up to sundown, their days begin and end in beauty.
