5. The grain eventually is stored on the farm or in a public elevator like this one in Kensington. When Debbie was a young girl, the contractors made this concrete elevator working around the clock. As she was going to sleep, she would lay her head so she could look out her bedroom window and watch the lights and sounds of the construction.

Since farming is the main industry in north central Kansas, it's not surprising that the majority of commercial property is used in the farm support industry. This photo shows fertilizer tanks and trucks; in the background are grain bins.
