reminder of a homestead   

A lonely tree and barn is another reminder a homestead was once located here. As fall colors change from yellow, gold, orange and red, the winter wheat turns brilliant green.

The evolution of small to larger farms began after WWI and was caused by competition from corporate farms and changes in technology.

A Kansas corn field. As larger farms gobble up the small family farm, often all that remains of the homestead is a lone silo. This silo reminds me of the storage silo left when iron ore mines, such as Gagnon, are no longer producing. Both are sad and eerie reminders of a bygone era.
