Pellet Plant

The photos to the left show two views of the pellet plant. It is in this building that the processed ore (concentrate) is manufactured into pellets. Although pellets are more expensive to purchase for the steel producing companies, they are more easily turned into steel; therefore, more cost-effective for the steel producing companies.

There are many disadvantages of mining in the North. The long winters and cold weather combine to make mining the ore more expensive then in warmer climates. However, relatively inexpensive power from Churchill Falls, cost saving initiatives and the hard work of the employees enable the company to be the second cheapest producer per tonne of iron ore.
