Entering the mine area. There are various mines including, Smallwood, Humphrey, Spook, Lorraine and Luce. Since all the mines, except Luce Mine, are now pits, the piles of rock are overburden: the rocks and dirt that must be removed to reach the mineable crude ore.

Luce Mine tends to dominate the landscape in the mine area since she is still above ground level. It's hard to believe that four years ago this mine seemed very distant from the other mines and now seems to dominate the landscape.

Another view of Luce Mine dominating the landscape. Eventually the mine will be a deep pit in the ground. Since 2001, the lake has been moved, all fish have been moved and a new river to connect the lake has been created so the fish can still go to their spawning grounds.
