Sept-Iles Shipping Records

• On August 1, 1964, the one hundred millionth ton is loaded onto the M.S. Monksgarth.
  
  
• In November 1969, the largest single cargo in Canada is loaded onto the Skaufast.
  
  
• On March 5, 1971, the two hundred millionth ton of iron ore is loaded onto the Chelsea Bridge.
  
  
• In 1974, the 228,610 ton Berge Adria, the largest ore carrier to sail the gulf of Saint-Lawrence, is loaded at IOCC docks.
  
  
• In May, 1975, the Adria Maru establishes a new record with 168,054 tons of ore.
  
  
• By the end of 1975, the total combined ore shipments equaled 297 million gross tons.
  
  
• While loading the Queensgarth on June 7, 1976, the 300 millionth ton was reached.
  
  
• A new shipping record was established in April, 1977, when 184,819 tons (equivalent of a train with 1635-cars) of Carol Lake Ore was loaded onto the Sensho Maru.
  
  
• By the end of 1978, the total combined ore shipments equaled 363 million gross tons.
  
  
• 1979 was the highest yearly tonnage ever shipped with 27,831,556 tons of ore loaded into 581 carriers. During this year, the establishment of the North American loading record of 179,790 tons of Carol pellets and 56,050 tons of concentrate for a total combined weight of 235,840 tons are loaded onto the World Gala.
  
  
• On September 10, 1980, the four hundred millionth ton of iron ore is loaded onto the Algobay.
