Logistics of bringing huge equipment to this remote area is frequently unique. These 255 tonne truck boxes are 24 feet wide, 20 feet tall and 45 feet long (7m wide, 6m tall and 13¾ m long). They were shipped from Texas by barge to Goose Bay where they were loaded onto transport trucks for their 579 KM (367 miles) journey to Labrador City. The top speed they traveled was 15 KPH (9MPH). Because the roadbed is only 35 feet wide (10 m)and the dumps were 24 feet (7 m) wide, there were a total of four escort trucks to keep traffic at various pull-off spots until these loaded trucks passed.
It must have been quite a logistical coup to execute this plan, because there is only one hotel and restaurant on this route that took over 40 hours of driving. According to rumor, the remaining thirteen new dumps will be trucked in three pieces for local assembly.
