We finally realized in November 2000 that to have the control we wanted over our pages we needed to learn to hand-code. We purchased several books and found several on-line tutorials and started the trial and error method of learning. It was also at this time that we realized we had outgrown the three subdomain names at Geocities. We started searching for free sites that would allow us the capability of hand-coding our own site without advertising banners or pop-ups. Of the free servers we researched, none met all of our requirements; therefore, we purchased our own domain name and webspace on February 9, 2001.
Although most of the hand-coded pages were complete in February, we spent the next month uploading and refining our site. After four months of work, on 17 March 2002, Version 3 of A Scoff an' Scuff finally went live. Besides the change of background, this site included more subsections and all photos were re-compressed for quicker loading. We did not include the free patriotic graphics in this site but left them on Geocities as a stand-alone site. This version had 1,986 hits during the 3½ months it was active.
