Question: How did you get involved in the Winterlude?

Answer: When organizers of Winterlude decided to hold its first sculpting competition in 1998, they contacted the tourism department of each province for potential sculptors. We apparently made the short list and were invited to represent Newfoundland and Labrador. The following year we were asked to submit an idea and again were chosen to represent the province. We submitted an entry for the third competition, but were unsuccessful and a team from St. John's attended the competition as the provincial representative.

Question: Have you submitted an entry for 2002?

Answer: Due to time restraints, scheduling, and the undertaking of a major project here, we decided not to submit an entry.

Question: Can you tell us what this major project will be?

Answer: In March, 2002, my brother Greg is marrying Claudette. He is building a Snow Castle large enough that the interior will accommodate the wedding. The family will be assisting in this project. We will be starting in the middle of January and if the weather permits, the projected finish is late February.

Question: What do you see as the future of ice and snow sculpting in Labrador West?

Answer: There seems to be a resurgence occurring. Last year as part of the Odyssey 2001, Greg, my brother, organized a fun week competition where many groups participated. A lot of good sculptures were carved in this competition.
