There will be four layers of fabric. The bottom layer is the backing.
The next layer is batting.
The next layer is the top with the colored fabric.
The top layer is the cotton voile.
This photo shows the cotton voile only over part of the top so you can see what a difference in color the cotton voile makes.

The four layers are pin basted and ready to go in the frame.
The backing fabric is much larger than the front pieces because I'll quilt it in a floor hoop and the extra fabric helps keep the quilt taut in the frame.
The blue marking showing the quilting line is visible through the voile.
When the quilting is done, misting with water will remove the blue marks.

The above photograph is a detail of a queen-sized shadow quilt.
Blue was used for the flowers. The same hot pink and jade were used for the applique pieces.

This quilt is the same pattern as the above pillow; however, ivory cotton voile and unbleached muslin were the fabrics used.
