After you have chosen the applique pattern, cut the front fabric 2" larger then you desire the finished pillow top to be. If it will be a quilt square, cut it ¼" larger then you desire the finished block. The extra fabric will be seam allowances. Mark the center of the square. I use a blue fabric marker and draw lines from the corners to find the center.

Align the applique pattern you have chosen and mark it on the quilt top being careful to center the pattern onto the fabric. I use the blue fabric marker on light fabrics and white chalk on dark fabrics. At this time, I also add the markings for quilting. The design I chose is "Hearts and Flowers" by Virginia Robertson.

Fabric will look very muted when the cotton voile is placed on top.
This cotton voile has a white micro dot throughout the fabric which adds a bit more texture.
For this project, I have chosen a hot pink and jade.

I make templates of each pattern piece needed. I then outline each piece onto the paper side of Pellon's Wonder Under. As you will notice, I mark all of the pink pieces together on the Wonder Under and all of the green pieces on another piece of paper.
