The pattern is a maple leaf with a large feathered star medallion in the center. This quilt (91" x 109") is made for our guest bedroom. I started this quilt while studying for my citizenship test. The top was almost completed, except for the top row of flying geese, when I received my Canadian citizenship in October 2002. It was in storage until I finally put it on the quilt frame in 2008. This quilt is made from red, white and blue 100% cotton. It is machine pieced and hand quilted. The backing is 100% white cotton. The binding is white 100% white cotton fabric. The batting is a medium weight, warm fiberfill. The leafs are outlined quilted ¼" from the seams in white quilting thread. The plain white squares between the leaves are outline quilted with a Canadien Hockey Team's emblem in the center. The blue flying geese border is outline quilted on the white.
The center medallion's white field under the red leaf is quilted in 3/8" squares. The red triangles are outline quilted in red; the blue diamonds are quilted in blue thread in parallel 3/8" rows following the contour of the pattern. The white squares are quilted with a pretty design. There is 270 linear yards (247 linear meters) of quilting; or 3.91 linear yards of quilting per each square foot with 7-8 stitches per inch. The quilt was completed on February 12, 2008.
