The three photos above show one quilt - a shadow quilt from a pattern by Virginia Robertson of Osage County Quilt Factory in Kansas. This technique uses very bright colors and is covered with a layer of cotton voile before quilting. My first project using this technique was a small pillow and I glued the fabric to the white then covered with the voile; however, when it was washed the bright colors wadded into a corner of the quilting that was to hold them in place. When I made this quilt, I used large machine stitched zig-zag stitches to hold the bright colors in place before adding the layer of voile. This quilt has been washed many times and retains its beauty.
