The above quilts are made from a solid piece of fabric. One of my mother's friends thinks I'm a bit goofy for cutting fabric apart and sewing it back together; thus, if she would ever take up quilting, she'd probably prefer to do this type of quilt work. The quilt to the above left is 88" by 136" because the customer wanted lots of room to tuck the pillows. There is a pretty design on the pillow tuck and a scalloped boarder around the edges. The quilt to the right is lavender on one side and white on the other. The quilt and matching pillow shams are reversible.

If you'd like to make a quilt that looks like a whole cloth quilt, but are uncertain how to mark the quilt, try piecing the quilt from all white or ivory cotton. The above two quilts and the quilt to the lower right are all made in this method. The left one is a basket design and the right one is an Irish Chain.

The above left is a pieced basket. The heart in the center of the basket is repeated in the boarder. If you want to try a small project before starting a large quilt, a small pillow like the one to the right is an excellent project and also makes a nice gift.
