While planning a quilt, one of the considerations is whether or not to make a special area to go over the pillows. The advantages are it looks nice, gives a completed feel to the quilt and can be used to add a bit of variety. The disadvantage is if you plan on using the quilt as a bed cover, the top normally has more wear and tear then the bottom. The two quilts pictured have been designed with a pillow area included. The customer who ordered the counterpane on the right wanted an additional twelve inch length so there would be lots of room to tuck in the pillows.
