Quilt Design

There is no "right" way or no "wrong" way to design a quilt. Designing a quilt is a very individual experience and should be pleasing to the quilter.

There are three areas in this section:

Setting the Blocks:
Pillow Tuck and Setting Blocks
Color Placement:
How color placement can give different designs to the overall appearance of the quilt.
Shapes of Pieces in Blocks:
The arrangement of the various shapes helps design the finished quilt.

  Grandmother's Crazy Quilt

A crazy quilt is pieces of fabric sewn together in crazy shapes with lots of pretty embroidery. The top is not quilted, but tied to the batting and backing. The quilt pictured to the above right was made by my grandmother and is tied with the little knots on the back. This was a wedding gift to my parents who were married in 1939. With proper care, quilts can last for generations.
